Corey B. Rubenstein

Corey B. Rubenstein is a member (partner) of Stetler, Duffy & Rotert, Ltd. and is one of the firm’s original lawyers. Mr. Rubenstein focuses his practice on white collar criminal defense and complex civil litigation (including commercial and regulatory matters) across the country, primarily in the federal courts. Before the founding of SDR in 1998, he practiced at McDermott, Will & Emery as an associate for three years. Mr. Rubenstein graduated cum laude from Harvard Law School in 1995. He received his undergraduate degree with highest distinction from the University of Michigan in 1992, where he was Phi Beta Kappa.

Mr. Rubenstein has vast experience representing both individuals and corporations in connection with the investigation, trial, and appeal of a variety of matters, including securities and accounting fraud cases, financial frauds, public corruption, antitrust, criminal tax charges, health care matters, environmental matters, and RICO charges, as well as regulatory and enforcement actions brought by federal, state and local agencies. He also conducts internal investigations for companies and municipalities faced with suspected misconduct by their employees. Mr. Rubenstein’s individual clients include corporate executives and directors, licensed professionals, independent business persons, and public officials.

His most notable cases include the defense at trial and successful appeal of corruption charges against the Chicago City Treasurer, Miriam Santos; the dismissal before trial of criminal OSHA violations against the nation’s largest power line construction firm; an internal investigation for the City of Minneapolis; and representing the Wells Team Leader of oil giant BP in connection with the numerous investigations and litigation matters arising from the Gulf of Mexico oil spill. He has argued many cases before the United States Court of Appeals for the Seventh Circuit.

Mr. Rubenstein is a member of the bar of the State of Illinois, the general and trial bars of the United States District Court for Northern District of Illinois, and the bar of the Seventh Circuit Court of Appeals. He currently serves as the Illinois Chair of the Criminal Law and Procedure Committee for the Seventh Circuit Bar Association. He has been admitted pro hac vice to the bars of many other courts across the country. Mr. Rubenstein has been selected as among the best white collar criminal defense lawyers in Illinois by “Leading Lawyers Magazine” (2010 and 2011) and “Illinois Super Lawyers” (2011 and 2012).
